The pandemic has had one upside for retail workers: The days each store begins sales on Black Friday before the table is cleared of Thanksgiving dinner plates have now been dramatically reduced.
After realizing (or forcing their workforce to realize) that family was more important than profits, many retailers reversed previous policies. And some like targetinggoing so far as to announce that they will not open their brick-and-mortar locations again on Thanksgiving.
There are, of course, exceptions. And people who work in grocery stores are less fortunate, as one of the truisms of preparing Thanksgiving dinner is that you inevitably realize you forgot to buy a main ingredient.
Whether you’re looking to get a head start on Black Friday deals or need an alternative turkey, here are the stores that will be open — and won’t be open — on Thanksgiving 2022. Note that hours may vary, so it’s definitely a good idea to call first. And remember, blue laws in Maine, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island prevent retailers from opening up.
