(Reuters) – Electric car maker Tesla (Nasdaq::) sold 8,3135 Chinese-made cars in bulk in September, breaking its monthly sales record in China, according to a report Sunday by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

The number represented an 8% increase from August and outpaced the monthly growth of all wholesale electric vehicle sales in China by more than 5%, according to CPCA data.

It set a new record for Tesla’s Shanghai plant since production began in December 2019, and topped the previous sales record of 78,906 in June, as the US automaker continues to invest in Chinese production.

Globally, Tesla last week said it delivered 343,830 electric vehicles in the third quarter, a record for the world’s most important automaker, but less than an average of 359,162 analysts expected, according to Refinitiv.

Tesla has accelerated deliveries in China after suspending most production at its Shanghai plant in July for an upgrade, which aims to raise the plant’s weekly output to about 22,000 units from levels of about 17,000 in June, Reuters previously reported.

The plant, which makes Model 3s and Model Ys, reopened on April 19 after the COVID shutdown, but only resumed full production in mid-June.

Production accelerated despite heat waves and COVID restrictions hitting its suppliers in the country’s southwestern region.

China’s BYD continued to lead the domestic electric car market with 200973 of wholesale sales in September, an increase of nearly 15% from August, as the CPCA said high oil prices and government subsidies continue to encourage more consumers to choose electric vehicles.

TOKYO (Reuters) – Automakers Renault Japanese television network JNN reported Friday that Nissan (EPA:) and Nissan (OTC:) will drop a December 7 announcement of a new deal for their restructured alliance as they struggle to bridge their differences.

Both sides are engaged in discussions to restructure their alliance. Renault is looking to Nissan to invest in its electric vehicle business, while Nissan is seeking to sell part of Renault’s 43% stake in Nissan to put the two partners on an equal footing.

JNN said the two parties decided to forgo the Dec. 7 announcement because they had not reached an agreement as of Friday on how to share the intellectual property.

She added that there are no new plans for when to make an announcement. It is not clear from the report whether JNN cites a single source or multiple sources.

Neither Renault nor Nissan immediately responded to a request for comment.

Reuters reported earlier that both parties had set December 7 as a possible date for announcing the new alliance structure.

The question of how technology and intellectual property will be shared has proven to be a sticking point in the talks.
