Royal Mail may cut 5,000-6,000 jobs by August By Reuters

(Reuters) – The parent company of international distribution services said on Friday Royal Mail could cut as many as 5,000 to 6,000 jobs by the end of August next year, as the British company remains stuck in a bitter dispute with its largest labor union.

Communications and Workers Union (CWU), representing 115,000 royal mail (LON 🙂 Postal workers, who staged strikes in September and early October, are threatening more strikes this month and next.

Royal Mail has forecast an adjusted operating loss of around £350m this year, after taking into account damage from strikes that have occurred or are scheduled, according to International Distribution Services Forecasts.

“We will begin a consultation process on business legalization in response to the impact of the industrial strike, delays in delivering agreed productivity improvements and reduced package sizes,” the company said in a statement.

The company said there could be more job losses at Royal Mail, its UK business, if strikes continue during the holiday period.

The company said GLS’ international distribution network was operating in line with expectations.

The CWU did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.

Royal Mail, the former British Postal monopoly, recently changed the name of its holding company to International Distribution Services from Royal Mail Plc.

PARIS (Reuters) – President Emmanuel Macron intends to renew Eric Lombard as head of public sector bank Case des Debuts (CDC), President Emmanuel Macron’s office said on Thursday.

Lombard, a former adviser to the socialist governments of the 1990s and a former head of French general insurance companies, was appointed to lead the Caisse des Depots in 2017.

His new mandate must be confirmed in both houses of parliament.

The CDC manages deposits in tax-exempt savings accounts and also holds stakes in several major French companies.
