Technology will continue to evolve “toys”

Weinraub and Kryptoise posit that “adults are just looking for ways to feel like children again.” Keeping the question of “how does play evolve” at the fore, Weinraub says this is the basic principle of his experience as play evolves.

From action figures to watching his kids build virtual worlds in Roblox, Weinrob emphasized how deeply the internet has spurred development in gameplay and games. According to Weinraub, players are no longer restricted within the boundaries of their neighborhoods or geographic locations.

Weinrup emphasized that the games’ content is “very, very different” and leans more toward “social play,” regardless of geographic barriers when compared to games of previous decades.

When asked about children and young adults’ concerns about comfort level with their digital interactions as opposed to their social interactions in real life, Weinraub acknowledged the existence of this situation. However, he said that while it can “affect some people, it can amplify some of that as well.”

The evolution of games appears to be moving toward more “social play” and, in many ways, can be designed to “enhance communication skills,” Weinraub supposes.
